About Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival generally hold on Sptember. It is popular festival in England and have been holding from 1843, so it has a long history. People who take part in Harvest Festival, bring food from home to a Harvest Festival Service. They are decorating schools or churches with baskets of fruit and food in a festival. There are pumpkins, cabbages, baskets of fruit and vegetables of all kinds in schools. There are many baskets of fruit and vegetables in churches too. The alter in the church is decorate with vases which holds berries, autumn leaves, autumn flowers. They also come to church to pray and sing hymns. They make corn dolls. It was Pagan’s custom and evolved from the beliefs of the corn growing people who believed in the Corn Spirit. Corn dolls are kept until the following spring to ensure a good harvest. Offerings of fruit and vegetables are placed around the altar for a thanksgiving service that would make sure there was a good crop for the next year. After the service, fruit and food that has been put on has been left as offerings are each blessed and sent to hospitals for the sick or give to people in need.
